This programme is designed for learners who are responsible for controlling the finances of a small business or handle the bookkeeping aspect of financial management in larger organisations. It is also suitable for newcomers who want to enter the field of bookkeeping and accounting.
This is the first course in a series of programmes that will enable the learner to become a certified bookkeeper and financial accountant.
The programme includes the following learning areas: source documents, the rules of double entry, subsidiary journals, the general ledger, bookkeeping for different inventory systems and bank and creditors’ reconciliations.

Payroll & monthly SARS returns (ICB)
Start date: 2 June 2012
This skills programme will revise the manual monthly bookkeeping function and introduce learners to payroll and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act as well as basic business ethics. Learners will be able to complete the payroll function from a bookkeeping perspective. Learners will be able to complete SARS payroll returns and VAT returns.

It is essential that a Bookkeeper is able to work effectively on a computer. Learners must demonstrate this competence in basic business computing and a computerised accounting package. This programme will include the completion of the monthly bookkeeping cycle on Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
